Battle of the Brands

Brand is the “name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers.” Initially, Branding was adopted to differentiate one person’s cattle from another’s by means of a distinctive symbol burned into the animal’s skin with a hot iron stamp, and was subsequently used in businessmarketing and advertisingA brand is the most valuable fixed asset of every business.

The Voice

Equally as important, but not as often discussed is the voice of your organization. Think about how your company operates within its walls; is it good content for a website, or a video tutorial? Today, the web and mobile audience wants to hear a person, rather than a promotion. A campaign is important, but more important is the connection between the people (of the organization) and the customer. Although a website seems like it might need a traditional voice, ask some questions, and make sure it matches your culture.

  • Is your culture jovial, and informal?
  • Suit & tie?
  • Flip flops & tank tops?
  • All virtual?
  • Technologically focused?
  • Service oriented?

The mark of an organization is remembered (or not). The design, look, and feel, of all your digital content (logo, website, newsletters, mobile apps, blogs, videos, and live shows), when consistent, engage the audience, and help them feel comfortable, and well, just like family.
